Artist Alan Michel’s photo paintings of flowers are on display at Goddard House in Brookline through Nov. 30.

The exhibition, titled “In the Presence of Flowers,” transforms familiar blooms into layered compositions of color, light, texture and pattern, according to Arts Brookline’s event listing. The show opened Sept. 16 at the assisted living and memory support community at 165 Chestnut St. Listed hours run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Michel, who lives in Methuen, holds a master’s degree in sculpture and spent decades building media arts programs for inner city teenagers in Greater Boston. He founded the Bates Arts Center in Boston and directed HOME, Inc., a Boston nonprofit, for more than 40 years before retiring in fall 2017, according to his website.

“I am always looking for patterns and where things intersect… as starting points,” Michel writes on his portfolio site.

The Goddard House show follows a previous run at Methuen Village. Arts Brookline said residents, families, caregivers and visitors at that location experienced the work as a source of wonder, conversation, memory and joy. The listing described Goddard House and its commitment to creative aging, expressive arts and memory support as “a particularly meaningful setting” for the exhibition.

Arts Brookline, a nonprofit that has promoted art and cultural events in Brookline since 2017, organized the show. The organization describes itself as committed to establishing Brookline as an arts destination and supporting local artists.

The exhibition runs through Monday, Nov. 30, at Goddard House, 165 Chestnut St. The Arts Brookline listing does not specify whether the show is open to the general public. Visitors should contact Goddard House directly for access details.
